Hi, I’m SAMI

— The Spellbound DJ! I (they/them) was born & raised in Maryland to a musical household. I started playing in punk bands and going to hardcore shows in Baltimore and DC as a teenager, working at a local record store on the side. I studied at McGill University where I began to expand my musical horizons by going to parties and raves in Montreal’s vibrant 2000s electronic scene.

After completing my studies, I moved to San Francisco to work as a botanist. I started spinning with Heart of Gold DJs in 2014, quitting the botany life in 2018 to be a full-time dance floor maven. I also spent a few years recording and touring with my post-punk band, Composite.

I am a musician and a curator pulling from three decades of musical study to create unique and beautiful mixes for you. While it’s true to say I love all genres, I particularly love spinning soul, funk, disco, house, new wave, hip hop, r&b, and pop across all decades.

I am currently based in San Francisco and will be based in New York starting in 2026. I can’t wait to see you on the dance floor!
